Lumia 610 Review

The Lumia 610 is a decent-looking smartphone with affordable price tag. Being the least powerful of the bunch, it still provides excellent values for users.

Design
Leaving its choices of colors aside, the Lumia 610 has nothing in common with the more expensive Lumia 900 and 800. It has the same size and shape with the Lumia 710 with a Samsung-like thin rear cover, the front panel of HTC Trophy and the plastic chrome edging of the BlackBerry Curve. Overall, what it lacks in aesthetical values, the Lumia 619 makes up with its build quality.

Display
While the more expensive Lumia models uses AMOLED and ClearBlack technologies, the more humble Lumia 610 uses standard camera. However, the 3.7” WVGA display should get the job done without causing any annoying issue.

Performance
Thanks to the efficient Windows Phone 7.0 OS, the 800MHz single core processor offers a generally fluid user experience, although it’s noticeably slower compared to the Lumia 710. Sometimes, users will find themselves staring on the blank screen for a fraction of a second. The Lumia 610 isn’t appropriate for app lovers, as the low hardware specs prevent you to run specific apps.

Camera
If you are buying the Lumia 610 for its photography capability, then you are in the wrong place. It takes roughly three seconds to bring up the camera app completely. Users can tap the display to activate the focus and set the exposure.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to maintain focus consistently and images produced tend to have slightly washed out colors. Lumia’s weaker processor contributes to slow response when the panorama mode is enabled. The camera can only record VGA clips, but the autofocus feature does its job and videos are smooth.

Verdict
Lumia 610’s capped RAM may result in slow browsing performance and the weak camera can be a deal-breaker. However, it is still an interesting smartphone if you can live with its limitations.
